PRESENTING A GROUP EXHIBITION

ECHOES_Main_Page.png

CSULA UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

OCTOBER 25, 2025 - MAY 1, 2026

The “La Piedra” Artist Collective presents an eclectic exhibition by seven of its members whose desire is to bring the echoes of the streets into the academy, with the aspiration that the inclusion of artists from the Latin American community, will become a tradition at California State University, Los Angeles.

Beyond “...isms,” this uncurated exhibition maintains an intrinsic unity, the product of artists who share an ethos: origins, experiences, dreams, and memories refl ected or filtered into the images, colors, and techniques used in the creation of the pieces.

There are myriad works created by the immense network of artists who form a rich human fabric that, over the years, through its encounters and disagreements, has been strengthened, despite the vicissitudes imposed by an exclusionary system that rejects our artistic production as foreign or marginal.

In this reprehensible time, saturated with ruthless attacks on the nobility of human thought, we reserve the right to continue painting and to continue expressing our ideas as exponents of Latin American art.
PARTICIPATING ARTISTS: Margoth Ábrego, Tito Calidonio, Arturo Cambron,  Pehdro Kruhz, Dora O. Magaña, Francisco A. Mejía, and Ricardo Garcia O’Meany.

"We, La Piedra, are a group of Latin American artists based in Los Angeles united by our ethos, cultural affinity, and inclination for social justice. Repression, wars, the activation of right-wing death squads primarily by the oligarchies of Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras, and the U.S. intervention against Nicaragua drove artists, along with workers, peasants, students, teachers, doctors, and various professionals, to seek refuge in Los Angeles.
